The Job

Toyota Motor Europe R&D Centre is responsible for:  Developing vehicles and making concept proposals for European core models.  Reflecting EU technologies to Toyota vehicles timely by utilizing a location advantage and a strong network with European partners.   The Material Engineering division (ME) is part of the R&D group at Toyota Motor Europe Technical Centre in Zaventem, Belgium. By utilization of wide and deep material knowledge as well as evaluation & analysis capability, its mission is to conduct research, to develop and to introduce attractive & environment-friendly materials. Paint department in Material Engineering Division is responsible for the investigation, development and introduction of coatings of vehicles for the purpose of enhancing attractiveness of the car and contribution to environment (low emissions, CO2 reduction). Our function is to design new colours for EU manufactured vehicles, development of decorative coatings for interior and exterior parts and advanced development of new type of pigments. Paint department activities also require regular monitoring of the marketplace and field performance data collection for assessment of existing designs and for definition of new design specifications. As major direction Paint department aims to utilise digital tools for technical and analytical tasks. We therefore decided to offer an internship for the field of AI Digitalization. Your Projects        1 – Roll out trial application of Data collection platform Perform final assembly of software components and confirm roll out readiness  Create Roll out plan, clarify trial activity targets and define timeline Perform investigation to identify participating parties, ensure agreement for roll out Launch and monitor roll out trial, perform intermediate assessments and implement improvements on detected concerns and malfunctions Complete trials, assess system performance and make conclusion on trial effectiveness.         2 – Database planning and coordination of database set up  Set development targets of database for big data collection Launch and coordinate database creation via local IT support function Embed database into Data collection platform Perform pilot assessments and generate pilot performance reports          3 – Development of AI application for picture analytics Prepare AI algorithm to digitally assess pictures to detect various paint defects Perform correlation studies and improve detection accuracy          4– Investigation of AI evaluation prediction tool based on past evaluation/production quality data Study evaluation and production data variables. Identify key independent parameters that influence the final quality. Define data format to apply Machine Learning and way to storage on a shared point. Start design of tool to make evaluation prediction.     Your Profile: Student of bachelor/masters degree for computer sciences with affinity for big data/AI analytics.  Programming skills (Python, Matt apps, SQL, PowerBI, or equivalent) Microsoft apps: office applications (Excel, One note, Share point) Flexible team player and personality able to work in an independent way Fluent in English(verbal/written), additional European language skills are an asset Collecting and processing data using relevant equipment  Quick and eager learner with a flexible mind and good eye for details We can only accept students with an EEA or Swiss citizenship (not requiring a work permit or visa to be eligible to perform an internship in Belgium)
