The Utility Interconnection Advisor is responsible for managing utility scale projects through the late-stage interconnection process as well as providing technical expertise to advance the development of our wind, solar and energy storage systems nationwide. This role requires an electrical engineer with experience managing utility scale projects through multiple ISO's and utilities interconnection processes. The goals of this position are to work with the Transmission and Interconnection team to advance interconnection positions through the study process to commercial operations through coordination with project design development and the associated project execution engineering support functions. The position is located in Denver, CO, Houston, TX, Chicago, IL and Santa Barbara, CA and it is eligible to work in many locations across the U.S. The role reports to Engineering Director, ENGIE North America. What you'll do: Work closely with the Interconnection Manager, Renewables Engineering and Project Development to achieve interconnection of Wind, utility scale solar and storage projects Review and analyze utility, System Impact and Facility Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, as well as support and manage a portfolio of later-stage utility interconnection projects through service agreement negotiation, necessary restudy efforts, and utility and RTO coordination. Develop single line diagrams and three-line diagrams for distribution-level and transmission-level interconnection applications, electrical permits, and construction documents Coordinate the electrical design and interconnection process for utility scale wind, PV and PV+Storage projects, identify reliability and congestion constraints for FERC jurisdictional projects, and develop integrated solutions Analyze interconnection due diligence materials to support project acquisition efforts, identify existing and potential red flags Review utility impact studies and upgrade estimates to identify cost or time saving measures Manage external consultants performing interconnection and transmission studies Represent the Grid Integration in design reviews and serve as subject matter expert for utility requirements and medium-voltage design Lead utility status calls, maintain utility relationships during design phase Lead technical utility negotiations Review shop drawings and designs for switchgear, transformers, reclosers, and other major electrical equipment Perform site visits for project assessment and feasibility Carry out other duties as assigned What you bring: Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or similar/ equal concentration preferred Minimum 7 years of relevant engineering and technical policy experience including renewable energy design and interconnection tariff structures Ability to lead advocacy and technical negotiations to facilitate advancement of late-stage projects Knowledge of transmission planning standards and FERC interconnection process is preferred Experience with interconnection requirements and criteria for MISO, PJM, ERCOT, CAISO, SPP, and WECC is preferred Familiarization with ERCOT (RARF - Resource Asset Registration Forms) submittals/processes Experience with substation design and transmission-level power system protection and coordination is preferred PSSE, Aspen, PSCAD, ETAP or AmpCalc modeling experience preferred AutoCAD software proficiency preferred Strong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code, and other industry standards Additional Information/Conditions: Must be eligible to work for any U.S. employer without the need for sponsorship now or in the future Must be willing and able to comply with ENGIE's policy with respect to COVID vaccination and testing Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies Ability to meet highest attendance requirements Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy Ability to use a company computer, calculator, Could involve some lifting Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with the needed assistance to perform the essential functions Eligible for a hybrid schedule consisting of in-office and work-from-home opportunities Why ENGIE?
