As Master's Thesis Worker, you will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge research project that aims to develop highly efficient CO2 sorbents for direct air capture. Capturing CO2 directly from air (direct air capture, DAC) is an emerging method that enables the mitigation, even reversal of climate change, but is bottlenecked by the limitations of currently available CO2 sorbents. Our project deals with the production and analysis of porous polymeric materials with high affinity towards CO2. The aim of the project is to explore novel adsorbents that enable significantly more efficient CO2 capture from air. As Master's Thesis Worker, you will: Work on the production and analysis of porous polymeric materials with high affinity towards CO2. Have the unique opportunity to work in a challenging and interesting VTT research environment and contribute to the motion towards a carbon neutral society. Who we are looking for: You have background in organic syntheses and polymers. You have experience working in a synthetic laboratory and understand the safety aspects You understand common analytical techniques, mainly NMR and other spectroscopic methods. You can critically analyze and interpret the results of your work. Experience with polymer materials and polymerization reactions is considered an advantage. Knowledge of polymer-based hybrid materials is also seen as a plus. As a person, we hope that you are: Self-starter who can carry out research on their own under the guidance of their supervisors. You have excellent communication skills in English, and you are able to work in a multi-cultural research environment.
