Rotterdams Studenten Orkest

The Rotterdam Student Orchestra consists of students and young professionals of 17 to 35 years old. We are looking for enthousiastic musicians that would like to join our ambitious orchestra. We invite you to join one of our rehearsals and try it out for yourself. Don't forget to take your instrument with you!. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 19:30 to 22:00 with conductor Coen Huisman. The RSO has a broad repertoire ranging from Romantic/Classical to modern. Previously the orchestra played Dvořák, Beethoven, Schumann, Sibelius, Wagner, but also scores from movies and musicals. Activities The RSO is of course not just about music, but also about having a great time together! Every season we have a rehearsal weekend in the Netherlands, and we go on a foreign tour every other year. Our association does not do hazing like other student associations, but we do have a fun intro day with games, speed dating, food and drinks. In addition, we organize a lot of activities every season, such as open stage, concert visits, drinks, board game evenings, dinners and of course the annual Christmas Gala! After every rehearsal on Tuesday, we visit our favorite pub De Haagse Bluf. In short: RSO is super fun! History The Rotterdam Student Orchestra was founded in 2011 by a group of enthousiastic students from the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Even though there was a big orchestra that welcomed students (Rotterdam Youth Symphony Orchestra, RJSO), the average age of members was quite young. To change that, the RJSO and the newly founded RSO collaborated with the Erasmus University to finally give birth on the 13th of February 2012 to a wonderful orchestra full with ambitious passionate members. Coen Huisman Since February 2013 Coen Huisman is the conductor of the Rotterdam Student Orchestra. At an early age, Coen started playing piano and various copper instruments. During his study Maths at the University of Leiden he played in many student orchestras in the region and he started to develop an interest in conducting. From 2010 to 2014, Coen studied orchestra conducting at the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam with Hans Leenders. Coen finished his study with an impressive performance of Igor Stravinsky's Pétrouchka.
